Guidelines for Publication of X-Ray Crystallography in RSC Journals

Policy concerning publication in RSC journals has recently been harmonised. The guidelines presented on these pages thus correspond to submission to any of our journals. In addition, the RSC has appointed an in-house crystallographer who will be using validation software (assembled in conjunction with the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre and the International Union of Crystallography) to assess submissions in the Crystallographic Information File (CIF) format in order to establish if the opinion of an external crystallographic referee is required. Authors are therefore strongly encouraged to submit their work in this format as it will facilitate the rapid processing of their manuscript.

Authors are also encouraged to take advantage of the free Electronic Supplementary Information (ESI) service to enhance their articles by providing 3D figures that can be viewed and manipulated on-screen using the browser plug-in Chime. Examples of these can be found in specially enhanced issues of Dalton Transactions (issues 19-24, 1999).

The Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre (CCDC) have a freely available programme which allows users to add RSC required information to cif files via a user-friendly graphical interface.
